The gooseberries are well on their way and individual berries are almost the final size. Above all, however, all branches are still full of berries. The harvest will definitely be worth picking it. The cherries will already produce some fruit, although they were only planted a few weeks ago. Today the yellow Cornelian cherry 'Yellow Molalla' aka 'Nezhnyj' was also planted.
2020-06-20	The edge of the forest border corner still had too much light. Something must be added around the gap on the right from the lime-tree to close. Today, hence, I planted a alder buckthorn and one more edible mountain ash. Now only some Solomon's seal and forest ferns are absent. The majority of the gooseberries have reached the final size and a few ones begin with the color change. The first kind black current is harvested and there are the first berries of the summer silverberries to try. The first berries of the serviceberries are ripe. Now, finally, I could plant the walnut 'Europe'. Normal walnuts would be too big, but the dwarf breed 'Europe' just still fits there. If I fell the alder in autumn, the small tree will get a little bit more sun. The mirabelle plums have become a little bit bigger again, but they are still far away from the final size.
2020-07-04	The tara vine berries have doubled in size. Though they are still tiny. The grape vine is still not flowering yet, but it cannot take much longer until their buds will open. There were some ripe gooseberries, summer silverberries and serviceberries. Also I tasted a half ripe cherry 'Jachim', but I cannot take ripening season seriously in the year of planting as the flowers developed at the nursery in a much warmer climate.
2020-07-11	The green and yellow gooseberries could have been harvested earlier. Either some berries have fallen or the animal competition has eaten them away. Be that as it may, the 1 liter can still got full of gooseberries. I was able to harvest about the same amount of black currants, as well as a single cherry 'Jachim' and a small handful of wild strawberries. I guess I didn't pay attention to the vines and overlooked the flowers. Maybe it will still be enough for them to ripen in August. On one side of the vine the nettles had once again grown so high that they cast shadows. So I pulled out the nettle grove and the sun is shining again for the vine. The tara vine fruits are twice as big ... they still have much growth ahead of them. The spinach tree grows very nicely, but harvesting only 2 plants is not worthwhile with the current size. The berries of the red elder shine in competition. A very beautiful shrub grew there by itself.
2020-08-01	The few cherries 'Jade' were eaten quickly, but in the planting year every single cherry is a cause for joy. Others are not so incredibly fast, even if they are still progressing briskly for trees. In its very first year of harvest, the mirabelle plum surprises with a large number of not-so-small fruits only two years after planting. The still completely green balls are already bigger than cherries will ever be. The 'Michurinskiy' grapes are finally growing in size. At least 3 panicles develop. Not bad for a vine 2 years after planting in my cool garden. There was also a bowl of aronia berries to harvest. On one of the bushes, however, the berries are still growing.
2020-08-08	The sweet pepper bush flowers diligently. However, the flowers show that the alder cannot be related to the sweet pepper bush. A bowl of blueberries can now be picked every week. The risk of an unmanageable large harvest naturally drops dramatically with such a staggered ripeness. The fuchsias are now rich in berries, but it will take a long time to ripen. The helenium are still in bloom and the giant knapweed flowers have recently appeared next to them. The hollyhock is now blooming too. The later aronia also ripen slowly.
2020-08-16	Suddenly things go fast with the mirabelle plums. Some of them are now almost ripe. Most of them are still more green than yellow. Another bowl of blueberries and the end is not yet in sight. The walnut tree shed all its leaves very early. Maybe the stress in the first year was too much for it. I don't want to give it up, because the buds actually make a good impression. Individual tara vine fruits have reached their final size. Let's see when they mature this year. Since all of the ragged robins fell victim to the road construction, I planted some in different places. Let's see which of them flourish. The spice fennel unfortunately all fell victim to the snails. Let's see if wild carrots fare a little better. The sweet pepper bush shows its most beautiful side and blossoms in competition.
2020-08-22	Individual mirabelle plums were immediately eaten by the wasps. In view of the manageable amount, I then picked all the mirabelle plums, although ideally I should only have picked the yellowish ones. Let's see how well they after-ripen. I also picked the only fruit of the dwarf red-leaf plum, individual berries of Fuchsia magellanica and grapes, a small bowl of blueberries and the remaining quince. The red-fleshed apples have grown a little and are now pulling the branches of the tree down, but the flesh is still too lightly colored.
2020-08-29	There is a lonely fruit on the large-fruited sloe 'Reto'. Although it's already blue, I'd better let it hang a little longer. Individual grape berries and again blueberries were also ripe. The autum silverberry will soon be ripe. Of the Cornelian cherries, only 'Schönholzerswilen' is ripe. The tara vine fruit are still very hard. After the neighbor has expanded the street with parking lots, I could let creepers grow on a scaffold along the border. Not only would that be beautiful, it would also be a useful visual limit for the cars.
2020-09-05	I found a second fruit of the sloe 'Reto'. It was already edible, though it wasn't particularly flavourful and a bit sour.
2020-09-12	The elderberry and the last aronia are ripe. Soon I can harvest the red autumn silverberry and the big fruited cornelian cherries slowly turn red. The raspberries are flowering and fruiting for the second time this year. A few blackberries were also ripe.
2020-09-19	I should have harvested the red autumn silverberries last weekend, because they have all gone now. But the apples 'Calypso' were still there and I harvested them all. Though, their flesh is not as red as it should be. Probably that's due to the shade by the alder and the katsura tree The alder will be cut later this year but I already cut the largest branches of the katsura.
2020-09-26	The very first tara vine berry was ripe, but most of them are still very hard. A small test harvest will show whether and how quickly they ripen. The cornelian cherries are not yet ripe. I will definitely have to harvest them before the first real frost, even if they are not quite ripe by then.

But it will be some time before the ground starts to freeze. I should use this time to mow the meadow thoroughly. Before that, however, I have to pull out the wild growth by hand in various places so that I do not cause any damage with the machine.
2020-10-24	Some trees have already shed all of their leaves or will shed them in the next few days. Others are still in green foliage. So I shouldn't cut trees yet. But the grass should be cut as soon as possible. But first I have to expose the curbs around the gridded plants and tear out the undergrowth around trees so that I don't accidentally hit a trellis or a tree with the brush cutter. The first snow could come next week, but it will hardly stay.
