2021-10-02 The kiwis are now ready to be harvested.
2021-09-21 The white-fleshed apples are finally ripe. The yield is impressive for such a small tree, even if these fruits are certainly not suitable for the supermarket.
How do I know when the peaches are ripe? ...
This question is now clear: when the first fruits burst, the time has come.
For the second year after planting and in such a challenging year, even a small bowl full isn't bad at all.
The rain protection for the root area of the walnut is extremely effective, as the local soil moisture sensor proves.
My patience continues to be tested by the red-fleshed apples and the mini kiwi.
2021-08-07 The 'Sparkling' apples have a slight sweetness and would be edible for lovers of sour apples. But it is better to wait a few more weeks before harvesting. I even better leave the 'Calypso' until the end of September or even longer so that the flesh reddens more intensely. The tara vines have almost reached their final size. But there are still about two months to go until maturity.
2021-07-31 The raspberries 'Black Jewel' are at least growing very well. The yield is limited however. But maybe the birds are also eating them.
The protective roof at the walnut stays there for the time being, because it is still raining a lot, although not without interruption.
2021-07-24
The peaches are growing but they are apparently still far from their final size. Let's see how big they get.
The apples and the tara vine still have a lot of growth ahead of them, but at least I know what size it will be.

The walnut has withstood the continuous rain well
2021-07-17 The tara vine 'Pink Jumbo' has overcome all damage and is now as high as it used to be and thus reaches the end of the bamboo stick with which it was delivered. For now it goes up with the help of cheap sticks, but of course this kiwi gets a permanent frame made of hot-dip zinced 3/4-inch pipes like the other kiwis. The first gooseberries are ready for harvest and the black currants in the planter can also be harvested. With the cherries, the time has not come for a while.
2021-07-09
The tara vines would probably overgrow everything else if I let them. But I regularly set limits to this wild goings-on, even if this is done at the expense of individual fruits. But one tara vine is very lucky, because there is not much life left in the birch 'Laciniata' ... so it can be overgrown by a variety of tara vine. Of course, this natural climbing aid belongs to a female and the male is left with nothing. In view of the constant rainy weather, I was now forced to install the rain cover for the walnut root area. Once the accompanying plants are large, this should no longer be necessary, but they are still far from their final size and can therefore only do little to use up the large amount of water. The first red currants are ripe, but animal harvest workers were probably quicker with the white currants.
2021-07-03 The kiwi have put on a lot of fruits, but some flowers are still open. A bumper crop still seems possible. The peaches have grown a lot again, but they are still far from their final size. You don't see much of the curl disease anymore ... this cunning little tree actually just grows away from this villain.
The walnut still looks healthy, but I hope the weather will be drier again soon, because the auxiliary plants are still consuming only a small part of the water.
The first harvest of leaf mustard was yielding. This will certainly result in a few servings of vegetables.
The vine is now blooming. May it produce plenty of fruit.
2021-06-26 The simple watering of the sweet potatoes and yacon works. Both root vegetables have also grown visibly.
Strawberries could be the only fruit that could be harvested now, but many fruits are visibly nearing maturity. The summer silverberry should be ripe next.
The sloe is once again making itself scarce, but the fruits are also extremely difficult to see in the foliage. So it is quite possible that not just one single fruit will grow.
The grape vine does not yet have any fruit, but numerous and large inflorescences develop. A respectable harvest for the second year can therefore be expected in autumn.
Now the tara vines have started to bloom. Will it be enough for a bumper crop?
2021-06-19 Now it's time to plant sweet potatoes and yacon. To facilitate the later harvest and for better growth, I plant them in bags of universal soil. There are some more Mayberries to harvest and it is not over for a while with these blue fruits.
The kiwi 'Pink Jumbo' is actually sprouting a third time and can therefore still be saved. But now I don't let anything burn and just sprinkle slug pellets until the leaves are too difficult for the slugs.
The magnolia was less fortunate and has to be replaced again after it has been eaten by snails. Of course, the new one immediately gets slug pellets all around.
2021-06-13 Less rain fell than feared, so the walnut was not in danger even without rain protection. Setting up the protection now would be a bad idea either way, because it is warm and dry weather forecast for next week.
More likely I will have the opposite problem.
Spraying against curl disease also makes no sense under such weather conditions, especially since the leaves of the various Prunus species are almost fully grown.
Now that there are no more cold waves, yacon and sweet potatoes can finally be planted in the bags.
I also planted 2 other types of rhubarb, 2 apothecary's roses and a yellow flowering shrub rose.
2021-03-20 No addional fatality due to neighbor's snow plow. So just reorder replacement for the 3 dead plants, keep a distance of 4m next autumn and drive in some posts as a snow brake.
2021-04-04
A cold and very snowy winter was followed by a much too warm early spring. And, of course, numerous plants have been induced to sprout prematurely by the high temperatures. If only that goes well, because heavy frost and snowfall are imminent in the next few days.
2021-04-10
The frost came and it was probably around -5 ° C, although according to the temperature map it should have been -8 ° C. However, at -8 ° C, frostbite would not only have occurred on tara vine and salmonberry, but also on rhubarb.
Survival is not at stake either way, because all those affected have already demonstrated the ability to sprout a second time.
2021-05-01 As exptected the tara vine sprouts a second time. For flowers it's far too early however.
Lonicera are least impressed, but peach, sloe and serviceberry  are flowering intensely.
Summer silverberries and cherries will also bloom profusely, but the flower buds are still closed.
Let's see what there is to snack on in my garden this year.
2021-05-15 Today I felled the big alder Without the winch this would hardly have been doable.
The dwarf red-leaf plum, the cherry 'Jade', 'Jachim ' and bush cherry  'Crimson Passion', the summer silverberry, apples 'Calypso' and 'Sparkling' and also Lonicera kamtschatica are blooming.
Serviceberry 'Prince William' and grows berries but 'Saskalate' variety ihas now opened its flowers.
2021-05-29 The peach has fruit sets but you can also see how it grows away from the leaf curl. If that is so, then I'll try the combination of horsetail extract in spring / summer and the pre-shoot spray of hydrogen peroxide and vinegar as soon as possible.
All the cherries Jachim and Jade also have numerous fruit sets, but on bush cherries, sloe and Japanese plums it should be possible to count the fruits on one hand. A lot of fruit can be expected from the summer silverberry, but the fruit set is still difficult to estimate. The fruits of the gooseberries, currants and honeyberries have already grown significantly.
There is probably no longer any life in the walnut 'Europa'. Maybe it works better with the 'Lara' variety. Fortunately, there is also enough space for the somewhat larger 'Lara'.
The scaffolding at the entrance looks almost like an arbor and that of the rearmost kiwi is now a little more stable in the middle level. But in autumn at the latest I have to step up again and start building the scaffolding for the newest Kiwi.
2021-06-05 The walnut 'Lara' has been planted, now it should take root as quickly as possible. The reason for the problem of 'Europa' can only have been the wetness in the root area, because I could easily pull the plant out and there were hardly any roots left.
If this is the case, the walnut gets strong shade plants to help with water consumption.
In addition, if there is a threat of continuous rain, I will set up a roof over the root area so that less rain can get inside.
In winter I can then generously cover the root area, so that only perennials but not woody plants can be used as shade plants.
